You'll be picked up at the reception of your Hotel in Casablanca at 7am by your driver. The drive to Marrakech lasts about 3 hours.
After you arrive in Marrakech, you will meet your local tour guide and start your walking tour around the Medina of Marrakech that will last about 3.5 hours.
You'll visit the famous Palais de Bahia with its fantastic courtyards and mosaic walls built for Bou Ahmed. You will stroll through the Jewish Quarter where you'll notice the difference in architecture in this district. Passionate home-cooks, they experiment with new recipes and work to perfect family favorites that have been passed down from Aicha's mother. Hajar is a stay at home mom of two young children and delights in preparing cooking traditional, flavorful meals for her family. Aicha and Hajar present a selection of authentic every day Moroccan dishes that showcase a mix of spices and balance of sweet and salty flavors. In keeping with Moroccan tradition, you will be greeted and welcomed in their back garden with a glass of mint tea.
You will then you drive together to the local Badr Market. This is an authentic local market with stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, olives, fish, meat, and everything else you need to prepare a Moroccan meal at home. She'll show you some of her favorite vendors where her family has been shopping for many years.
Upon return to Hajar's home, roll up your sleevesÂ and join Hajar and Aicha in the kitchen to learn to prepare a traditional Moroccan meal. You will learn to make 2 to 4 dishes from scratch, which you will later enjoy with a few dishes they have prepared in advance. You can expect the cooking lesson to last about 2 hours.
You will then enjoy a typical Moroccan family meal and some of Hajar's favorite dishes. You might get to try her juicy, flavorful chicken tagine with olives and preserved lemon or her couscous with chicken, sweet onions and raisins. You'll sample a variety of side dishes such as her warm salads like zaalouk (eggplant) or tchoutchouka (bell peppers), a Moroccan salad, potato salad, tomato salad, and for dessert sefa (vermicelli with raisins, cinnamon and powdered sugar).
